Tone character

Curt Mangan Fusion Matched is a boutique American-made nickel wound set — tonally sits in balanced mainstream territory, but what separates the set is the hand-matched tension calibration across all six strings. Every string pulls with an intentional relative tension, so the feel is uniquely even under the fingers in a way most machine-made sets can't match.

Best for

Players who've noticed tension imbalance in mass-market sets and want a more even feel. Strat and Tele players looking for a boutique alternative to Ernie Ball at a similar price point. Studio musicians who value consistency across strings during recording.

Durability

Standard uncoated nickel wound — 3-5 weeks of peak tone. Break rate is low thanks to hand-matching and quality control. Curt Mangan's small-batch manufacturing keeps pack variation tight.

Climate notes

Standard uncoated humidity response. Hand-matched tension doesn't provide climate benefit beyond the alloy's natural behavior. Tropical players see the usual 2-3 week change cycle.

    • I am amazed at the hand-work involved in each string. It's a good thing they last so long cause I feel guilty throwing one away until they are really fried!

    • One idea worth experimenting with would be making Monel roundwound bass strings because I only know one other company that makes it and that would be Rotosound but they make it only with flatwounds, I have never seen any company do them in roundwound configuration. Definitely something worth exploring with your R&D dep
