Half Rounds sit between roundwound and flatwound — the outer wrap is ground smooth (not fully flat), preserving 70% of roundwound brightness while cutting finger noise dramatically. On an ES-335 the voice feels almost-flat but without the muffled high-end that pure flatwounds produce. A unique middle-ground that's technically unique to D'Addario.

Jazz hollowbody players who find full flatwounds too dead but find roundwound squeak disruptive. Recording musicians who need reduced finger noise without full tonal sacrifice. Blues players on ES-335 or Les Paul who want smoother attack than standard roundwound.

Ground outer surface retains less finger grime than standard roundwound — 5-7 weeks of peak tone is typical, slightly longer than EXL. Break rate is low at 11-52.

Smooth outer surface accumulates less sweat-based corrosion than roundwound. Tropical-climate players see modest improvement over standard nickel-wound sets. Not dramatically humid-friendly.
