Tone character

NYXL 8-String applies the NYXL treatment to extended-range — the low 80-gauge strings deliver tight attack without flubby response under drop tuning. Tonally matches NYXL character: slightly brighter than standard XL with high break strength and superior tuning stability. The premium 8-string set for modern djent and progressive metal.

Best for

8-string guitarists playing modern djent, progressive metal, or extended-range jazz fusion. Players who've struggled with 8-string intonation and tuning stability on budget 8-string sets. Pro-level extended-range requires pro-level set.

Durability

NYXL durability translates well to bass-register strings — 4-6 weeks of peak tone typical. Break strength at 80-gauge low string is notably higher than standard alternatives. Critical advantage for aggressive 8-string players.

Climate notes

Uncoated Nickel Wound with standard humidity response. The heavier construction of 80-gauge low strings accumulates more sweat surface area; daily wipe-down is essential in tropical climates.

    • I've always felt the NYXL was different than other strings with the same gauge. They feel lighter, easier to bend. They also settle really quick when new and the tone last a long time. Probably the best strings I've used.
