Lifespan 2.0 preserves the classic Martin Phosphor Bronze voice — warm dreadnought low-mids, rich harmonic bloom, balanced mid-range — while adding Martin's proprietary coating for extended life. The tonal difference versus uncoated Authentic Acoustic SP is minimal to most ears, though side-by-side comparisons reveal slightly less top-end sparkle. For gigging Martin players, the tradeoff is usually worth it.

Touring and gigging acoustic players who love Martin SP tone but can't change strings every 2–3 weeks. Players in humid climates — Southeast Asia, southern US, coastal Europe — where uncoated Phosphor Bronze dies within days. Essentially the "Elixir for Martin loyalists" — same use case, native Martin voicing.

3–6 months of satisfying tone — competitive with Elixir Nanoweb. Coating wear becomes visible around the 4-month mark but tone holds surprisingly well. String breakage is rare at 12–54 gauge. A clear longevity upgrade over the uncoated SP equivalent.

Coating acts as a direct moisture barrier — the main reason players pay the premium. Tropical climate players see the largest relative gain compared to the uncoated Authentic Acoustic SP. Sweat, humidity, and temperature swings all dramatically reduced in impact.
